So the day has finally come for our presentation of our work, and I’m glad to say I’m happy with my finished product. I had to make a few changes along the way in regards to the storyline, and the way my movie was presented (originally wanted to present it through the iDome but it cut off my subtitles). Additionally, I accidentally deleted all my clips I had captured when trying to convert the files so I had to go back onto Sims and redo it all. However, glitches and problems aside, I feel my finished product reflects my effort and the work put in, and I hope it presents well today.

So after extensive Sims gameplay, videoing the gameplay and converting all the files, I decided to tweak my storyline a bit to make it more personal for me and to make it reflective of my experience at university. I also feel that it is representative of how a lot of students feel once they start university coming straight out of high school.

Originally, my storyline was going to centre around how the 21st century person is supposed to live - graduate high school, go to university, get a job, find a partner, marry, have children and raise a family. I felt that 3 minutes was not enough time for me to accurately portray and document this in Sims, so I have made the decision to change it to focusing around the university experience.

This video is very much reflective of my experience at university this year. I came fresh out of high school, excited to start university because I had been told it was a lot easier than high school, was much more relaxed and a lot of fun. I was looking forward to having a few chilled years after the hectic last years of high school, and enjoyed my first few weeks and made new friends.

But the stresses of deadlines and the workload soon hit me, and I began to wonder why I came to university, and wondered how I could’ve been so naive in thinking that university would be fun. I was constantly stressed with assignments and work to do, and at the start of this semester wanted to drop out because I felt so overwhelmed. But I gritted my teeth and powered through, and just got everything done and worked hard. This year has definitely been a reality check for me, and I feel that my second project is a clear reflection of this.

More extracts from footage I’ve shot through making my final project.

Some establishing shots of my first project. Apologies for the terrible camera movements, I was trying to get some good shots to set the scene for my film.

Whilst creating and working on project 2 on Sims 3, I came across a few problems in my game. I thought I’d share this on my Tumblr, in relation to the workshop a few weeks ago about glitching because I felt it was relevant to my learning in this unit.

Glitches in paintings - my personal favourite is the Girl With The Pearl Earring.
